How to install HPLIP (Hewlett-Packard Linux Imaging & Printing) drivers on debian 7.0/7.1

HPLIP (Hewlett-Packard Linux Imaging & Printing) is an HP-developed solution for printing, scanning, and faxing with HP inkjet and laser based printers in Linux. The HPLIP project provides printing support for 2,264 printer models, including Deskjet, Officejet, Photosmart, PSC (Print Scan Copy), Business Inkjet, LaserJet, Edgeline MFP, and LaserJet MFP. (Note: Not all models are currently supported. See Supported Printers for more information.)

Install HPLIP on debian 7.x

First you need to download latest HPLIP drivers file from here.Once you have this file run the following command from your terminal.

sh hplip-3.13.9.run

The above command starts the HPLIP automatic installer and follow the on screen instructions.

Using hp-setup to configure your printer

From the command line run the following comamnd

$hp-setup

and follow the on screen instructions

  1. why not apt-get install hplip? 3.13.9 is in untable, so maybe just recreate package for whezzy
