  1. That desktop background is beyond ugly

  2. yes.

i thought canonical had designers on board now?
nothing to see about gnome shell as well…

  3. Please improve the graphics :(

  4. Don’t let yourselves be distracted by that default wallpaper, it’s by far the worst of the pack. In fact, the set of wallpapers included this time is leaps and bounds better than what was available in 10.04. In my opinion, Maverick is all around the best looking Ubuntu release so far. If anything, I would update the GDM theme, which looks out of place when compared to everything else, as well as the icon theme, which begs for an update (I know Canonical has already identified that and is working on it, good news!).

About GNOME Shell, it was publised several weeks ago that it would not make it to Ubuntu 10.10.

  5. are we slowly moving back to orange ? ;-)
mmm … shouldnt the default wallpaper be the *most amazing* one of the pack iso *the worst* ??
i hope it will change, because this looks like s*it !
there are hundreds and hundreds of great wallpapers around, then why use this one ??? … sigh
this makes me sad … snif

    grtz

  6. Nice screenshots. Why don’t you implement a Lightbox component? It would make it much easier to browse through the images.

  7. @ Francois: They would not prefer using Lightbox here because they’re using some ads on the pages. They need more and page hits, whereas Lightbox would simply restrict them to one page :)

@ Maverik Meerkat: I presume and so I expected, nothing much different from 10.04 on the “LOOK AND FEEL” front. Quiet possibly, there’s more under the hood.

@ ALL: My fears are coming true or what? Ubuntu seems to be heading in the direction of “more and more emphasis on the cosmetics (e.g Gnome or GTK, KDE)”. Which, imho, should not be the fate of a promising distro among the many of the lot.

    My two cents

  8. In 10.04 (Lucid Lynux) the main problem i am facing big problem is that , when playing a song or movie can hear in speaker fine, but if i connect my headphone in , i can hear voice in both pc and head phone, not possible to hearing only in headphone….i am tried to change sound driver through update , but same error….

  9. Background looks like one of the talking entities from Star Trek TOS. Maybe the Tremaine one?

  10. Hi , I am somewhat confused by the message saying that the final release will come in October,
Ok i think I had read in a Linux magazine that it might not be released till next march or april 2011.
    .What’s the actual date +/-.
One other thing that I think about installing beta versions of OS’s is that they should be directed towards a particular crowd ,meaning those who can test it ,report bugs etc and or even try fixing some of the glitches themselves and reporting them to the appropriate staff.
That in my opinion would not only be more responsible of Canonical ,but also more effiscient since sales are not in the equation ,right?..
    thankx
