Synaptic is a graphical user interface (GUI) for managing software packages on Debian-based distributions. If you are using Debian or Ubuntu you will easily find Synaptic in the System Tools menu or in the Administration menu. Synaptic uses the GTK graphic libraries . So, if you are using GNOME on your debian-based distro you will probably have Synaptic installed as well. Synaptic is a graphical package management program for apt. It provides the same features as the apt-get command line utility with a GUI front-end based on Gtk+.

The user information is stored in the system /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files, and that additionally, group membership information is stored in the /etc/group file. The update-passwd tool keeps the entries in these master files in sync on all Debian systems.While it is possible to edit these files by hand, it is not recommended.There exist several command line tools, which can be used to manage these files instead.

Etch is the codename for the upcoming release of Debian, which will also be known as Debian GNU/Linux 4.0. Etch has been the testing "release" of the Debian distribution since the release of the current stable version, 3.1 (codenamed Sarge), on June 6th 2005. The project is currently aiming at a December 4 2006 release date.I have created easy debian etch installation process with nearly 50 images.You need to click on thumbnail image to view full image size.
